Estate Planning During a Pandemic by Eric Engebretson

At this point in the pandemic, if you or an immediate family member have not been directly affected by COVID, you almost certainly know someone who has fallen ill to the virus. While contemplating our own mortality is something we often try to avoid, we have been reminded of it more frequently during this pandemic, as we have witnessed people fall severely ill, and often quite unexpectedly. The reality of the pandemic has left many of our clients questioning if they have appropriate arrangements in place to ensure loved ones are cared for should something unexpectedly happen. These questions are not only rooted in a desire to care and provide for loved ones financially, but also to ease the burden of an already difficult time by ensuring wishes and desires are clearly articulated to avoid unnecessary stress or disputes.

Do you have questions or concerns regarding what would happen to you or your loved ones in the event something happened to you unexpectedly? Have you arranged for your children or your assets in the event such circumstances arise? Do you wonder how health care decisions would be made if you are unable to make them on your own behalf? If you need assistance with answering these questions and determining how you might be able to address them in advance, call the estate planning attorneys at Broyles, Kight & Ricafort for assistance.

While it is impossible to predict the future with absolute certainty, most circumstances can be addressed in advance with proper planning. This will not only put you at ease but will make things easier for your loved ones in the event the “unexpected” happens.
