July 2016

From the Office:

Erin Durnell, Nissa Ricafort, Melissa Avery, Jesse Pace, Jennifer Hostetter, and Melanie Reichert attended the Indianapolis Bar Association’s annual Bench Bar Conference in June, held at French Lick this year. As part of the conference, the Indianapolis Bar Foundation held a Trivia Night fundraiser to benefit the Foundation, which funds several pro bono initiatives of the Indianapolis Bar Association. Erin Durnell served as co-emcee of the trivia contest. BKR fielded a team, placing 2nd overall (without any help on questions from Erin!). Trivia Night raised $4250 for the Foundation.

This summer, Mike Wilkins is spending two days a week helping run a reading development program for kids at IPS School 105, which is located in one of six high-crime neighborhoods targeted by the City of Indianapolis for providing services designed to tackle systemic social issues that lead to a rise in crime. The program is run by Outlook Christian Church in McCordsville, and its partner church, Crossroads Bible Church. Volunteers are helping mostly first through fourth-grade kids develop reading and problem-solving skills through phonics lessons, group reading, auditory
processing training, and board games that teach strategic thinking. Volunteers also provide a daily Bible lesson applicable to their lives and take them to school for lunch each day.

Melissa Avery will be attending the ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco the first week in August where she will become the Vice Chair of the Family Law Section.

We are excited to announce that Jennifer J. Hostetter joined our Family Law Practice on July 18th. Jennifer has significant experience litigating various family law matters throughout central Indiana and has also worked as a Guardian ad Litem and a domestic relations mediator. She also currently serves as a public defender in Boone County courts, and has a private criminal defense practice representing clients facing both felony and misdemeanor charges. Jennifer also practices in the unique area of Assisted Reproductive Law, including gestational surrogacy, egg donation, sperm donation and embryo adoption. Jennifer is licensed to practice in both Indiana and California and we are excited to expand our family law practice with Jennifer’s distinctive practice areas.
