From the Office:

The IBF’s largest fundraiser will be on October 10th at The Crane Bay, co-chaired by Erin Durnell, and Bri Clark. The fundraiser, Evening Under the Stars, will include a silent auction (kid-themed baskets, ticket packages for museums, sporting events, casinos, theme parks, restaurants, etc), live auction (vacations, private events with local celebs/athletes, jewelry, golf outings, etc.), dinner and cocktails.

The Indiana chapter of AFCC hosted a CLE on cultural competency on Oct. 3rd at Hillcrest Country Club. “The Fault in Our Stares: Working and Recognizing Cultural Differences in Family Law and ADR” had a variety of topics and speakers. Melanie Reichert serves on the board and Erin Durnell is the marketing committee chair.

The 118th ISBA Annual Meeting in Indianapolis is from October 8th-October 10th. Paws and Think will be there on Thursday for Puppy Cuddling. Melanie Reichert is also a delegate during the House of Delegates meeting on Oct. 10th, as she represents the Hamilton County Bar Association. www.InBar.org/events

Melissa Avery was appointed to the Membership Committee and the Webinar Committee of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers; she also still serves on the board Early Learning Indiana, formerly known as Day Nursery Association www.EarlyLearningIn.org

IBA is hosting Ask a Lawyer on October 14th for those needing basic legal advice from attorneys who are donating their time. Locations are on their website.

Joni Sedberry and Melanie Reichert hosted the CIACP Fall Meeting of Members on Oct. 2, noon to 1pm. Attorneys learned how to use financial professionals in collaborative cases.

Amanda Blytone and Melanie Reichert were part of a group of family law attorneys who provided free mediation services in an effort to resolve cases currently pending in the Marion County Circuit Court, Paternity Division. Barnes and Thornburg hosted the event at the end of September in which about 50 litigants had the opportunity to try to resolve their cases at no expense to them. Mediation Days also helped Paternity Court manage its overwhelming case load.

On the Personal Side:

Mike Wilkins, part-time Director of Outreach and Missions for Outlook Christian Church, will be sharing photos and stories from his mission trip to Haiti, Oct. 3-11th. Look for those in next month’s newsletter!

Erin Durnell, Nissa Ricafort and Melanie Reichert participated in the Choose to Move Run, benefitting Parkinson’s Disease on Saturday, Sept. 20th in Fishers. See our Facebook page.

Amanda Blystone has been chosen to run a part of the Indianapolis leg of the Charity Miles/Timex 800 Mile Relay from Chicago to NYC on Oct. 12th. Timex will donate $100 per mile that Amanda runs to the charity of her choice: Girls on the Run. Timex will be providing watches that track her run, but, will also let people send real-time encouragement.

Jesse Pace was BKR’s Annual Chili Cook-off winner! It was a three way tie and with one vote, he pulled out the win. Check out our Facebook page to see Jesse and “the trophy”.
